Moxy introduce upgraded Series III ADTs

MOXY Engineering, the Norwegian-based manufacturers of construction and mining equipment, have announced significant upgrades to two of their five-model articulated dumptruck range – the MT26 and MT31.

Designated Series III, the upgraded features of the MT26 and MT31 include new weight-saving skip and bogie designs, increased payloads together with oil-immersed front and rear disc brakes. Also, because of the new design of the scow end of the skip, tailgates are no longer necessary. All other characteristics of the earlier versions of the MT26 and MT31 have been retained.

Moxy say the upgrades across both MT-III models have resulted in improved power-to-weight ratios of 5.03kW/tonne and 4.95kW/tonne respectively. The MT26-III now has a heaped capacity of 15 cu m and a payload of 24.1 tonnes, some 600kg more than its predecessor, while the MT31-III has seen a 500kg increase in its payload to 28.5 tonnes, with a heaped capacity of 18 cu m.

Both haulers are powered by the Stage 3-compliant Scania DC-9 water-cooled, direct-injection diesel engine with turbocharger. Although the MT31-III has a gross output of 255kW, the DC-9 engine installed in the MT26-III has been de-rated to 228kW. Power is transmitted to the three 6x6 drive axles via a ZF 6WG 260 Dash 4 electronically controlled automatic transmission giving six forward and three reverse gears and a maximum speed in both models of 51km/h.

Like their three larger stablemates, the MT26-III and MT31-III have permanent six-wheel drive, a free-swinging rear tandem bogie, articulated hinge system and independent front-wheel suspension, all of which combine to provide good driving stability in uneven terrain with equal power and weight distribution to the wheels. In addition, new dual-circuit, hydraulically operated brakes with enclosed oil-cooled wet multiple discs all round replace the dry type fitted to the previous models.

The new sloping heavy-duty body of the MT-III machines has a wide bottom section and is designed for exhaust heating, while the two tilt cylinders are of the single-stage, double-acting type, giving a raised tipping time of 11s and a down time of 10s.

Other major features on all Moxy ADTs include a new rubber-mounted cab and a sleeker bonnet design, while air-conditioning and an air-suspension seat, together with an adjustable steering column and low interior noise level of 74dB(A), contribute to a safer and more comfortable working environment for the operator.
