Metso launch new range of slurry pump mechanical seals

Metso slurry seal

Metso have launched a new range of slurry pump mechanical seals to meet the increasing seal demands from their customers in the mining and minerals processing sectors. The focus has been to offer a slurry seal that reduces dilution of sealing water into products, eliminates leakage to the atmosphere, increases lifetime of the seal by preventing slurry from entering the seal chamber and allows easy conversion from box packing solutions to mechanical seal solutions.

According to Metso, their new ESF seals meet the demand for advanced and reliable sealing solutions on even the heaviest of slurry applications typically found in mining applications. Customers are now requesting the installation of mechanical seals into tougher applications due to environmental reasons and to satisfy the goal of reducing water consumption.

The ESF mechanical slurry seal has numerous features and benefits:

  • The seal is designed to fit into the standard Orion Series pump flushed gland housing. For the Vasa HDA a convenient seal adaptor is used
  • Cartridge design allows easy installation
  • Retrofit installations are quick and simple when converting a packed seal pump
  • Tungsten carbide seal faces are standard and provides longer service life in heavy-duty applications
  • Flushed gland port along with an internal chamber creates a barrier of clean, continuously replenished fluid to prevent incursion of slurry material to the seal faces while increasing service life
  • Centering clips are self-storing and used to keep the seal faces in position when the impeller to casing clearance is adjusted
  • Radial lip seal to ensure that the seal runs in a clean water environment
  • Replaceable O-ring mounted seal faces without special tools helps reduce repair costs

Metso’s proven slurry pump range is renowned for its long life, high operational performance with minimum power consumption and total ease of service.
