Lafarge MD to retire
"LAFARGE Aggregates Ltd have announced the retirement of managing director Ian Reid. After 13 years as head of the company, Mr Reid will step down on 6 April 2003. His successor will be current deputy managing director Dyfrig James, who has been with the company for eight years."
"Ian Reid joined the company as sales manager of Redland Readymix in 1975. He worked his way up to become managing director in 1990, leading the business through an active period of industry consolidation, including the acquisition of Redland by Lafarge in 1997."
"Charles de Liedekerke, chairman of Lafarge Aggregates Ltd, said: ‘Ian has played a crucial role in one of the most challenging periods in the company’s history, adapting to an ever-changing marketplace and increasing regulation. He has also been instrumental in bringing about important changes within the quarrying industry, in areas such as safety and sustainability. Ian has been a popular figure across the industry and we wish him well for the future.’"
The announcement of Mr Reid’s retirement accompanies a major restructuring programme which will see Lafarge Aggregates combine their three regional customer service centres and head office into a single business centre in Leicestershire.
