JCB Loadall secures quarrying role

Aggregate Industries have purchased a JCB 535-125 Loadall telescopic handler to perform both loading and maintenance duties at one of their Yorkshire quarries.

The multi-purpose machine, which has been put to work at the Brown and Potter quarry in Ripon, has been supplied with a JCB radio remote-controlled aerial work platform and a range of compatible attachments including a four-tonne, fork-mounted lifting hook. Operations based at the site include: the extraction of sand and gravel, a ready-mixed concrete plant, mini-mixed concrete facility and an aggregate merchanting business. The site produces around 110,000 tonnes of aggregates a year for distribution across the Leeds, North Yorkshire and Teesside markets.

The 535-125 is being used for a range of tasks including: the filling of 1-tonne bulk bags with aggregates for distribution, operating as a stand-by loading shovel for loading trucks, feeding the concrete plant, and utilizing the aerial work platform to allow personnel access to all areas of the plant.

Use of the platform is crucial to the on-site maintenance and repair requirements of Aggregate Industries. With a maximum payload of 300kg and a lift height of 13.61m, it allows two men and their tools to reach the highest parts of the plant. The platform and machine combination also allows the company to conform to the latest European Standard EN280 and HSE working at height legislation.
