Jaw crusher maintenance platform from Metso

Maintenance platform

Metso develop new maintenance platform to increase safety when changing C-Series wear parts

METSO have developed a new range of maintenance platforms to help improve safety when changing wear parts in jaw crushers. The ergonomic and safe platforms are available for all Metso Nordberg C-Series jaw crushers.

Each device consists of hand rails, which are also used for lifting the platform, a sturdy work platform and related control mechanisms, allowing it to be precisely placed at the desired height of the jaw opening.

Constructed from aluminium, the platforms are light enough for one person to move and are available to match with either single-piece or two-piece jaw dies. Metso have applied to patent the platform.

‘For a small investment, Metso’s new maintenance platform offers a huge improvement in safety when making jaw changes,’ explained Ilkka Somero, product manager for Metso’s jaw crusher line.

‘When the platform is correctly installed into the opening, the jaw holds it in place so that it cannot drop, even if the jaw’s upper mounting hardware is loosened or removed. The platform is lightweight and easy to handle and adjust to fit the desired level in the crusher cavity.’

He added: ‘The textured-aluminium platform is sturdy, slip resistant and covers the crusher cavity properly to prevent anyone from slipping or getting a leg wedged between the jaws. And, thanks to its lightness, the platform is easy to lift into position and remove, speeding up the work of changing parts.’

A family of maintenance platforms weighing between 12kg and 23kg is available for all Metso Nordberg C-Series jaw crusher models, from the C80 to the C200.
