Increased productivity from new Bobcat planers

Bobcat have launched new 46cm and 61cm wide planers, providing increased productivity for maintenance and repair work on asphalt and concrete surfaces. Compared to the models they have replaced, both the torque and horsepower have been increased on the new planers for enhanced performance.

The new models are free-floating oscillation planers, providing optimum surface tracking. They can be used with three different types of cutting drum - all-purpose, fast-cut or smooth-cut. The drums from the previous models can also be used on the new planers.

They are designed for a range of applications from milling surfaces to repair potholes and cracks, ice damage and for work around manholes. Other applications include creating cuts for recessed lane markers; matching uneven pavement surfaces; producing vertical edges for pavement repairs; cutting drainage in car parks and for tapering edges of roadways. The new planers are also suitable for finishing jobs around larger milling machines and for work on bridges, walkways, garages and in other confined areas.

The new planers are approved for all current high-flow loaders, including the new Bobcat S850 skid-steer and the T870 compact tracked loaders. One of the key product improvements is in the hydraulic side-shift which has been increased from 66cm to 76cm. The hydraulic side-shift and depth control are controlled by the operator from the cab.

As well as increased torque and horsepower for improved performance, the planers incorporate a new valve and ACD controller with built-in hour meter and two job clocks. They employ a new design allowing increased downforce to help keep the drum in the cut and have a new backframe with added strength for more durability. A larger rear opening reduces the amount of material being remilled. A high-torque direct-drive piston motor ensures high performance and minimum heat generation.

The 46cm and 61cm planers weigh 539kg and 572kg, respectively. Both have an overall length of 1,207mm, width of 1,687mm, height of 894mm and offer cutting depths from 0-152mm. The maximum cutting angle both left and right is +/-15°.
