Hillhead machine for Thompsons Plant Hire

Hyundai R480LC-9A excavator

Cumbrian plant hire firm invests in new Hyundai R480LC-9A excavator as seen at Hillhead 2014

A HYUNDAI R480LC-9A excavator, supplied by Cumbria-based Hyundai dealers Taylor and Braithwaite, caught the eye of Thompsons Plant Hire, based in Flimby, on the Cumbrian coast, when managing director Kevin Thompson saw it in action at the quarry face at the recent Hillhead exhibition in Buxton, Derbyshire.

The 48-tonne machine is now bound for Lafarge Tarmac’s High Craig Quarry, where it will be put to work loading Thompsons’ new Sandvik QH331 cone crusher and QJ341 jaw crusher. The company have several other Hyundai machines with up to 6,000h on the clock and, according to Thompsons, apart from some minor teething problems, the Hyundai fleet has been trouble-free.

‘We were really impressed seeing the Hyundai R480LC-9A in operation at Hillhead and it’s perfect to support our operation at High Craig Quarry,’ said Mr Thompson. ‘We have already purchased a number of Hyundai machines this year from Taylor and Braithwaite, so we immediately went to them to supply us with this machine. Their after-sales support is excellent so we were happy to continue our relationship with them.’

Ian Burton, sales director with Taylor & Braithwaite, commented: ‘We are delighted here with the sale of the Hyundai R480LC-9A to Thompsons Plant Hire. This is our fifth consecutive year of business together, which hopefully is a great reflection of our commitment and customer service. We look forward to continuing our relationship with the Thompsons team in the future.’
