Hanson sign up with CCW

THE Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) and Hanson have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at bringing benefits to nature conservation in Wales.

"The agreement, which seeks to improve communication between the two organizations, committed Hanson to publishing a Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) by the end of 2003 and a Geodiversity Action Plan (GAP) by the end of this year. Hanson are also working closely with the CCW in maintaining the SSSI’s in which the company has a management interest."

"The chairman of CCW, John Lloyd Jones, and Chris Collins, chairman of Hanson, signed the agreement at the 2003 Royal Welsh Show."

"Mr Lloyd Jones said: ‘This is a great example of how conservation and business can work hand in hand for the benefit of all. This initiative will allow wildlife to thrive at some of Wales’ most important sites, while we continue to sustain jobs and invest money within local communities.’"

"Chris Collins added: ‘Although Hanson already have a good track record on community and environmental issues, we believe that partnership agreements are the way forward. This agreement will, I am convinced, improve working relationships, open up new opportunities for conservation, and reduce areas of potential conflict.’"
