Hanson grant to fund block research

THE Building Research Establishment Waste and Environmental Body (BREWEB) has been asked by the Concrete Block Association (CBA) to develop a study of the reuse of waste materials in the production of precast concrete blocks.

BREWEB will use a £50,000 grant from the Hanson Environment Fund - one of the largest funds set up as part of the landfill tax credit scheme - to develop guidance notes on the use of construction and demolition wastes in the making of concrete blocks, cutting down the reliance on primary aggregates.

The project will also undertake a study of waste arisings from concrete block production and transport, looking for ways in which waste minimization can be incorporated.
