Get it straight!

Sandvik Mining and Construction Ltd say UK drilling contractors can benefit from superior hole quality and reliable perform-ance by using the Ranger Rock Pilot series of drill rigs in combination with newly introduced Sandvik Tough MF drill rods.

The Ranger Rock Pilot’s new super-fast control system adjusts drilling power automatically, reacting to changing rock formations and delivering the optimal amount of power to the rig’s drill rods, resulting in straight holes even in the most demanding ground conditions. Moreover, Sandvik say the collaring phase is both smooth and rapid, without any need for pumping, thereby extending drill tool life. Designed for ease of operation, the Rock Pilot system’s simple, intuitive controls allow the operator to fine tune the system manually to cope with any particularly unusual conditions.

The new Sandvik Tough MF rods, which have been specially developed for surface bench drilling, benefit from carefully selected metallurgy in the various parts of the rod, resulting in a drill string with virtually no weak points.

The benefits of Sandvik Tough MF rods include:

  • reduced risk of pitting on threads due to upgraded material characteristics
  • reduced risk of thread-end breakages and lost drill holes
  • better balanced male and female thread wear, resulting in more efficient rod utilization
  • tighter manufacturing tolerances, resulting in higher product quality and longer life.
