Gesan acquired by Atlas Copco

Atlas Copco strengthen product portfolio with acquisition of Spanish generator manufacturer
ATLAS Copco have acquired Grupo Electrógenos Gesan S.A. of Spain, manufacturers of diesel and petrol generators sold through a global distributor network. The deal is designed to strengthen Atlas Copco’s product portfolio, especially for customers in emerging markets.
Gesan, who are privately owned and had revenues of €56 million in 2010, employ around 160 people and are based in Zaragoza, where they have a production and assembly facility.
The company’s generators are used for primary power supply and for standby purposes, and are available in sizes up to twice those of Atlas Copco’s current offering. The company’s distributor network reaches more than 85 countries, with Europe, Africa and Russia as the most important markets.
‘Together with Gesan, we can offer a full range of generators for all kinds of applications, and we look forward to building relationships with new customers and distributors,’ said Ronnie Leten, president and CEO of Atlas Copco. ‘Gesan complement Atlas Copco’s generator business very well geographically and in terms of the value proposition. We also expect synergies in sales, service, purchasing and manufacturing.’
Atlas Copco say they will keep the Gesan brand in line with their brand portfolio strategy; the Group also sells generators under the Atlas Copco and Chicago Pneumatic brands.
Atlas Copco’s generator business operates within the Portable Energy division (formerly Portable Air), which became part of the company’s Construction Techniques business area on 1 July 2011.
