Volvo EC300E excavator

Wessex Demolition purchase two new Volvo E-Series excavators for the first time

WESSEX Demolition have taken delivery of two new Volvo machines – a new EC250CE and EC300E – for the first time.

‘We were in the market to replace two mid-sized excavators for our demolition fleet and wanted to choose a proven and reliable brand that would give a good return on the total cost of ownership and high-residual values, along with sound after-sales support,’ commented Ashley Grant, contracts manager for Wessex Demolition.

‘Having looked long and hard at the market, we determined the Volvo product stood head and shoulders above the rest and so opted for the new EC250E and EC300E excavator models.’

Both Volvo machines are powered by eight-litre Volvo engines (Stage IV Final-compliant) that develop 213hp and 240hp, respectively. Specially equipped for secondary demolition applications, the excavators feature heavy-duty belly plates, side impact protection rails, a heavy-duty boom and bucket cylinder guards, as well as additional mesh grills to protect the engine and cooling system from erroneous particles.

Both machines have been supplied with twin-lock quick-hitches and to accommodate the use of hydraulically operated attachments (eg rotating grapples, shears etc.), one of the excavators has been installed with X3 rotation lines.

The FOGS-guarded Volvo Care Cab on both machines offers a large roomy interior with plenty of legroom and foot space. The excellent all-round visibility is enhanced by pressurized and filtered cab air supplied by a 14-vent, climate-control system.

An adjustable easy-to-read LCD colour monitor provides real-time information of the machine functions, key diagnostic information and a wide variety of work tool settings. The monitor also doubles as a screen for a rear-view camera.
