Ennstone Thistle fall for Canning Conveyor

Canning Conveyor have been involved in a project for Ennstone Thistle at their Shierglas Quarry, near Pitlochry, which produces 100,000 tonnes of limestone material for local markets.

Canning supplied a 750mm wide by 225m long troughed-belt field conveyor designed to accept up to 150 tonnes/h of –65mm aggregate from an existing mobile crusher conveyor. The field conveyor travels horizontally before running downhill at a maximum angle of 20o to a discharge section that consists of a 15m long high-level lattice-frame structure elevated over a road. The lattice-frame structure is supported by a trestle close to a bank while a tower at the discharge end incorporates a gravity take-up arrangement.

The conveyor is cantilevered out at the discharge end and feeds on to a radial stockpile conveyor via a cascade chute. The cascade chute incorporates a series of crash boxes that reduce the vertical fall on to the radial conveyor. Canning also supplied the 900mm wide by 20m long radial conveyor, again designed to accept up to 150 tonnes/h of –65mm material. This conveyor elevates before discharging either into a hopper or to stockpile.

The whole project was designed, manufactured, supplied and commissioned by Canning Conveyor. Duncan Morrison, quarry manager, commented: ‘The new belt has allowed us to stop the use of dumptrucks, as the quarry is situated on the side of a hill, and also to supply a steady feed [of material] to the new tertiary system.’
