Enhanced precision and productivity with new SKF actuators for off-highway vehicles

SKF have launched their latest range of electromechanical actuators for off-highway applications. Designed to increase performance, productivity and profitability, the actuators are designed to provide both OEMs and end-users significant cost and time savings.

The range has been specifically developed for off-highway vehicles, and fulfils a number of functions, including articulated dumptrucks, tractors and backhoe loaders. The actuators have been engineered to withstand harsh environmental demands and have undergone an extensive series of mechanical, environmental and electronic trials. In particular, the units are proven to resist wide temperature swings, chemicals, dirt, dust, water, vibration and other demanding operating conditions. Improved robustness brings increased machine uptime and a reduced risk of failure.

The virtually maintenance-free designs minimize downtime and cost, while the hydraulic-free actuation eliminates the risk of hydraulic fluid leaks, which can result in impaired function, with the potential risk of fire. Capable of operating at temperatures ranging from -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C at a 25% duty cycle, the new electromechanical actuators feature robust metal gears and corrosion-resistant housings. The extensive testing of the units considerably reduces validation time and costs, as well as warranty issues.

The new actuators have been applied to lifting and movement functions such as engine hood lifting and ergonomic functions like foot-step deployment and door opening/closing control in large vehicles. They have also been used for levelling and height adjustment functions for better workplace convenience and operator comfort.

The actuators are available in two series - CAHB-20/21, for medium- to heavy-load applications, and CAHB-10, for-low load applications, with both series IP-66 rated.
