Encouraging news for the industry

BDS report on planning developments for new aggregates reserves, wharves, depots and related activity

IN the first half of 2018, BDS Marketing Research identified nearly 200 separate planning schemes for developments in the minerals industry in the UK. These relate to sand and gravel pits, crushed rock quarries, other minerals, aggregates bagging plants, rail depots, aggregates landing wharves and related activity.

Consents were granted for schemes relating to the extraction of around 150 million tonnes of minerals during this period. This is encouraging news for the industry, which has been struggling to replenish reserves in recent years.

Full details of all of these schemes are included in BDS’s monthly planning reports and online planning portal. Every planning authority in Great Britain, Northern Ireland and Ireland is monitored on an ongoing basis to identify all new applications and decisions made on existing schemes. Each month, a report summarizing all activity is published in PDF and Excel format.
