EIG 2010 – First Call for Papers

THE sixteenth biennial Extractive Industry Geology Conference, which will take place in Portsmouth from 8–11 September 2010, has issued its first call for papers.

Organized by geo-professionals working within the non-petroleum extractive industry and hosted by the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Portsmouth, the conference is an essential training event for all earth scientists wishing to keep abreast of current and future trends.

The conference programme itself will take place within the University’s award-winning Portland Building, but as usual a number of pre- and post conference field excursions to local extractive operations and other sites of geological interest will also be arranged.

The proposed main themes for the 2010 conference are: Mineral reserve and resource assessments; Geo-hazards and geological disasters in the extractive industries; Research and innovation in the UK extractive industries; Energy and carbon footprint issues in the UK minerals industry; Regulatory burden on the UK extractive industries; and Military geology.

Papers and case studies are invited on any of the above themes, but other topics that may be of interest to those involved in the non-petroleum extractive industry will also be considered. The title of the proposed paper, together with a short abstract (250 words max), should be sent or emailed before 30 January to Mark Pritchard at: PGW&A LLP, Griffin House, Charlbury, Oxford OX7 3PJ; email: MarkP@pgwassoc.co.uk
