Vision Techniques launch Pointer camera recording system for quarry and mine vehicles

VISION Techniques have launched a cost-effective recording camera system for quarry and mine vehicles which, they say, is proven to prevent false claims and designed to improve driver performance.

The new Pointer system monitors a driver’s performance, to assess if he or she is driving economically and safely. The innovative system ‘scores’ the acceleration and braking of the vehicle in order to rate driving performance, as well as providing a video record of any accidents or incidents that may have taken place, thereby helping to prevent false and fraudulent claims.

With the cost-effective system constantly monitoring the driver’s journey, Vision Techniques say it is easy to discover both driver inefficiencies and the cause of accidents. Using the latest technology, the system monitors all forces acting on the vehicle during a collision, with the footage saved for later use. And by detecting numerous harsh braking and acceleration events, the system will identify drivers who need further training.

Tarmac, who have been fitting Vision Techniques’ safety equipment to their quarry site vehicles for 15 years, are already utilizing the new pointer system to improve driver performance. According to Vision Techniques, the results are tangible – helping Tarmac to further reduce and avoid reversing accidents.

Andrew Kendal of Vision Techniques said: ‘Investing in the Pointer system will save quarrying and mining companies money while improving their safety. It is an excellent tool for monitoring a driver’s performance – with the accident recording facility as a secondary function.’

In addition to its other features, the Pointer System has a in built GPS tracking and mapping system, which can be used to monitor vehicle positioning and routing. The unit itself can be hard-wired into the ignition or easily plugged in via a cigarette lighter socket adaptor.
