Concrete paving market approaches 30 million m2

HAVING increased in recent years, the UK concrete paving market is now estimated at over 27 million square metres, with rumbled paving proving especially popular. The growth in the market is despite the increased use of imported natural stone paving.

These are some of the conclusions of a new report published by BDS Marketing Research Ltd on the estimated outputs of paving slab works and companies. The consultancy has identified 64 companies in this sector, operating 92 works in Great Britain.

Marshalls are thought be the market leader, with over 35% of the market, while Aggregate Industries are the second largest company, with a share approaching 25%. Other leading players are BS Eaton, Castacrete and Brett, although none are thought to have more than 10% of the market.

The report has been published at the same time as a similar study on the concrete kerbs market. Total production in this sector is now over 13 million linear metres, with Marshalls and Aggregate Industries once again being the leading players. In total, BDS Marketing have identified 36 kerb works operated by 21 companies.
