Change of chief executive officer at Nynas

Bo Askvik

Bo Askvik to step down after eight years with the company; Stein Ivar Bye appointed as interim CEO

NYNAS president and chief executive officer Bo Askvik has decided to step down after eight years with the company, having successfully led the business through many challenges, including sanctions, COVID-19, reorganization, and the recent refinancing.

‘It has been a pleasure and a privilege to lead the company and to work with so many dedicated and talented colleagues, but now is the right time for me to hand over the responsibility of leading Nynas,’ said Mr Askvik.

‘I am very proud of what we have achieved together during these years filled with unprecedented challenges for the company. With the reorganization finally completed in January and the refinancing concluded in April, Nynas will now start a journey of change to become an even stronger company for the benefit of all stakeholders and society.’

Mr Askvik (pictured) will continue to be chairman of the Nynas Foundation ‘Nynässtiftelsen’, a shareholder in Nynas, and will thereby support the company’s continued development.

The Nynas board, which expressed its gratitude for Mr Askvik’s unwavering leadership throughout his service with the company, has commenced the search for a new chief executive officer.

In the meantime, Stein Ivar Bye, recently appointed as chairman of Nynas, will manage the CEO duties on an interim basis until a permanent replacement has been appointed.

Mr Bye, who has a wealth of experience from numerous executive positions in ExxonMobil, was previously chief operating officer at Preem AB, chief executive officer at Essar Oil UK, and has been a member of the Nynas board since August 2021.

‘It has been a privilege to be a part of the Nynas Board since August 2021 and I feel honoured to be selected as chairman of the board and interim CEO. I’m looking forward to working with the rest of the board and Nynas stakeholders in the next chapter of the company,’ said Mr Bye.

‘Nynas have proven their resilience in a changing environment over close to 100 years. This is testament to the commitment of the Nynas organization and I am very excited to be a part of the journey ahead.’
