Caterpillar celebrate machine milestone

Cat 745 articulated truck

US manufacturer delivers 50,000th articulated truck to Trader Construction Company

CATERPILLAR have reached a significant production milestone by delivering their 500,000th articulated truck – a brand new 41-tonne Cat 745 – to North Carolina-based Trader Construction Company. Since the start of the Cat-branded truck manufacturing in 1985, the company has become an industry leader of articulated truck design.

‘The articulated truck has been a key member of Caterpillar's core product line since it was developed in Peterlee [UK manufacturing facility], which has always been its proud home,’ said Brent Losey, Cat product manager for articulated trucks.

‘I thank the entire team for their focus and dedication to continually improve the design, manufacture and support of these great trucks for our customers. Cat articulated trucks are helping our customers meet their objectives on construction and mine sites around the world. We are proud to see the 50,000th truck drive off the assembly line and look forward to the next 50,000.’

Trader Construction Company received the 50,000th unit during a special ceremony held at the Peterlee facility, in County Durham.

Equipped with an enhanced, re-engineered cab, the Cat 745 truck offers ease of operation, uninterrupted rear-quarter visibility and in-cab operating sounds levels 7dB lower than previous designs. According to Caterpillar, the machine’s gear range selector delivers efficient single-lever control over truck speed and body hoisting functions to improve cycle times.

The articulated truck’s power train is driven by a Cat C18 ACERT engine (rated at 504hp), with a range of emissions control platforms to meet global environmental standards.

The Cat 745 also features an economy mode for improved fuel efficiency during operation and a host of standard integrated technologies, including Product LinkTM, Cat Production Management and Cat Detect with Stability Assist, to monitor, manage and enhance job site operations.
