Cat expand skid-steer loader range

Caterpillar have increased their skid-steer loader range with the introduction of three new vertical-lift models — the 232, 242 and 262 — which extends the line-up to eight models.

The new machines feature increased forward reach, lift height and operating capacities over their radial-lift counterparts. They have also been designed to improve loading-cycle efficiency and provide increased versatility.

The 232 model is powered by a Cat 3024C diesel engine rated at 36kW, while the 242 is powered by a 40kW Cat 3034 diesel engine, and the 262 by a 60kW Cat 3034T turbocharged diesel engine. All three models feature:

  • low-effort pilot-operated hydraulics for ease of operation
  • an anti-stall system so that the machine can be driven at a low engine speed, thereby reducing noise output and fuel consumption
  • easy serviceability and convenient service checkpoints.

The 232 and 242 are just 1.5m wide and can lift 680kg and 862kg, respectively, while the 262 can lift 1,143kg, making it suitable for bulk rehandling. The vertical-lift linkage of the 262 allows loads to be raised to 3.2m with a forward reach of 82.5cm.

Each model has a bucket-discharge angle of 50° and all have longer wheel bases for increased stability when compared to their radial-lift counterparts; this also improves ride quality. All routine maintenance is carried out inside the engine compartment or outside the machines via easily accessible locations.
