Case introduce the 821E wheel loader

BAUMA 2007 (23–29 April) will see the introduction of the new Case 821E wheel loader, which, the company claim, offers the highest performance of any wheel loader in its class. With an operating weight of 17,166kg, an engine rating of 213hp (159kW) and a bucket capacity up to 3.4m³, the machine has been specifically designed for arduous of applications in the construction, quarrying, mining and related industries.

The 821E is powered by a Case-family IV 667TA/EED common-rail, electronically controlled Tier III-certified diesel engine, which gives the operator three power and three torque levels for optimum efficiency according to application. There are also four work modes to choose from.

The engine management system can be set to three levels of output: MaxPower: for an 11% increase in standard gross output to 169kW at 2,000 rev/min; Standard Power: which delivers 157kW at 1,800 rev/min; and Economy Power: which reduces standard gross output to 142kW at 1,500 rev/min.

 

The equivalent options for engine torque output are: MaxPower: which delivers a gross torque of 1,002Nm at 1,400 rev/min; Standard Power: which delivers 982Nm at 1,400 rev/min; and Economy Power: which delivers 966Nm at 1,200 rev/min.

Alternatively, Autopower can be selected, in which case the power curve is automatically matched to the application and demand is constantly monitored with engine output and torque continually adjusted for maximum performance and efficiency.

The electronic engine also provides multiple idle settings. Normal working idle speed is 900 rev/min, but in Auto idle mode the cold-start idle speed rises to 1,200 rev/min, and if there is no load demand on the engine for 30s, the normal rate automatically drops to 600 rev/min.

The 821E transmission has four forward and three reverse electronically controlled gears, with manual or automatic gear shift available. Shifting is controlled using a shuttle switch in the head of the main hydraulic servo lever, thereby allowing the operator to work the attachment while changing direction. The maximum speed of the 821E is 37km/h.

Rear axle oscillation of ±24° and ground clearance of 416mm allow safe travel over rough ground conditions with good load retention. Despite its size, the 821E has an outside bucket edge turning radius of only 6,032mm. An 80° total turning angle allows for rapid truck loading.

According to Case, the 821E’s cab takes spaciousness and comfort a higher level. The cab is longer and wider than previous models with floor-to-ceiling glass for a high level of all-round visibility, including sight of the front-end attachment in all positions. Visibility to the rear is also said to set new standards as a result of the contoured single-piece engine canopy and the engine pre-cleaner mounted in line with the exhaust stack.

A fully adjustable air-suspension seat puts the operator in the most convenient position from which to reach the various controls and switch panels. The operator also benefits from an improved airflow ventilation system and wider opening windows. Ride control and air conditioning are available as an option.

The Case 821E retains the proven Z-bar linkage, which offers superior breakout and digging characteristics, as well as giving the operator better visibility to the corners of the bucket. Breakout force is up to 18,479kg and maximum lift capacity at groun

With just 5.6s required to raise the fully loaded bucket to its maximum hinge-pin height of 4.12m, 1.2s to dump and 2.8s to lower the bucket, Case say the 821E caters for the rapid loading of rail wagons and on- and off-highway trucks.

Engine diagnostics are carried out from within the cab for quicker detection of service needs, while other features, such as maintenance-free wet disc brakes, also contribute to faster service times.

With the 821E’s cooling module centrally mounted, access to the engine is greatly simplified. A one-piece electric-lift hood opens 180° for unrestricted access. In addition, fluid sight gauges on all reservoirs and service points are grouped together at eye level for simpler daily maintenance checks. Moreover, changing fluids is made easier with fluid drains for the engine oil, coolant and hydraulic oil positioned for ease of access and to minimize any risk of spillage.
