British Precast campaign up for award

BPCF’s Raising the Bar initiative shortlisted for Best Campaign in Climate Week Awards

THE British Precast Concrete Federation (BPCF) has announced that its ‘Raising the Bar’ initiative has been shortlisted for the ‘Best Campaign’ category in the Climate Week Awards.

‘Raising the Bar’ takes forward the Sustainability Charter membership scheme first launched by BPCF in November 2007, and which has now become a mandatory requirement for all members of British Precast.

The initiative provides sustainability guidelines that go well beyond legislative requirements for reducing energy use, landfill waste, water consumption and CO2 emissions. Last year, members of British Precast achieved 12 out of 13 targets set for 2012.

A spokesperson for BPCF said: ‘As a result of ‘Raising the Bar’ and our Sustainability Charter and KPI scheme, we are proud that member companies, and their supply chains, have already reduced total CO2 emissions by nearly 10%.

‘It is vital that this positive trend continues and we hope that this recognition by the Climate Week Awards persuades others in the construction sector to further address issues on sustainability.’

‘Raising the Bar’ is going up against campaigns from The Times, Size of Wales and Zero Carbon Hero. The winners will be announced during Climate Week’s launch at the House of Commons on Monday 4 March 2013.
