Company extends its reach into Suffolk and Essex with the acquisition of two asphalt plants from Hope

BREEDON Aggregates have extended their reach into Suffolk and Essex with the acquisition of asphalt plants at Cavenham, near Bury St Edmunds, and Wivenhoe, near Colchester.

The Cavenham plant, which has a capacity of approximately 200 tonnes/h, is located in a sand and gravel quarry owned and operated by Allen Newport, while the Wivenhoe plant is located in a quarry owned and operated by Lafarge Tarmac and is rated at approximately 120 tonnes/h.

Both plants were previously owned by Hope Construction Materials.

Commenting on the purchases, Tim Hall (pictured), chief executive of Breedon Aggregates England, said: ‘These acquisitions will enable us to service a new community of customers in Essex and Suffolk, and provide additional outlets for our aggregates.

‘We now have a network of nine asphalt plants throughout central England, stretching from Leominster in the west to Norwich in the east.’

Meanwhile, Breedon Aggregates have also secured joint planning consent for an extension to Saredon Quarry near Cannock in South Staffordshire.

The joint consent has been granted to Breedon and NRS Wastecare, who already operate the existing sand and gravel quarry and infill site at Saredon, for an extension to the east of the quarry on land controlled by Breedon.

Under a joint agreement NRS will continue to operate the extended quarry and provide material to Breedon’s ready-mixed concrete plant, erected on the site earlier this year, together with other operations in the West Midlands.

The extension will provide an additional 1.5 million tonnes of reserves, extending Saredon’s life by approximately 15 years.
