Braithwaite Excavations supplement truck fleet with three new Volvo A30Fs

Volvo A30F articulated dumptrucks

Barnsley-based Braithwaite Excavations Ltd have taken delivery of three new A30Fs to supplement and rejuvenate their fleet of Volvo articulated haulers

Braithwaite Excavations chose the Volvo articulated haulers having evaluated the market but ultimately, according to director Andy Braithwaite, they were selected thanks to the reliability and productivity of previous Volvo A30 models.

‘We are still running A30C models which have clocked up an impressive 17,000 hours and apart from one unit which has benefited from a new transmission they are all running with original engines, transmissions and axles. With our contracts portfolio expanding we needed to add new haulers to the fleet and opted for the reliability and product support we have enjoyed in the past from Volvo.’

The new A30F hauler from Volvo meets the requirements of Stage IIIB emissions legislation being powered by an electronically controlled, six-cylinder 265hp turbo-charged Volvo V-ACT diesel engine. This features high torque at low engine speeds, resulting in good fuel efficiency, high performance, quicker engine response and less wear, ie long service life. Purpose built by Volvo, the engine is designed to exactly match the Volvo drive train, ensuring the best use of power and torque, even in tough working conditions. It is matched to a torque converter with built-in lock-up function and fitted with a fully automatic fast adaptive transmission. The rest of the Volvo designed and built powertrain has been reinforced to cope with the higher torque output of the engine. According to Volvo, the new F-Series is not only more environmentally friendly, it is also more fuel efficient than the E-Series machines, by up to 4%. This is a remarkable achievement given that the E-Series was the class leader when it came to low fuel consumption.

With a carrying capacity of 28 tonnes and heaped capacity of 18.1m³ the Volvo A30F has a maximum speed of 53 km/h. The trucks supplied to Braithwaite Excavations Ltd have the optional cantilever tailgates and side extensions fitted for maximum load retention. The new F-Series trucks are fitted with CareTrack as standard. This is Volvo’s telematics system that enables remote monitoring of a wide range of machine functions (eg location, fuel consumption, service reminders etc) thus optimizing customer operations.

Braithwaite Excavations are a family owned and operated company based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, and have a long and successful history undertaking many prestigious projects over the last 30 years. These have included works on the M25 and M54 motorways, the demolition of the former Corby Steelworks and more recently works on the English Institute for Sport in Sheffield, the largest Academy school in England located in Hull. The company is currently working on two divisional headquarters and a new training centre for West Yorkshire Police.
