Bolt-on growth in US for Aggregate Industries

"IN mid-June Aggregate Industries completed the acquisition of the asphalt assets and businesses of The Driggs Corp. and West Shore Construction Corp., bringing to six the number of bolt-on acquisitions completed by the group in the US in the first half of 2001. Driggs — the first asphalt business to be acquired by Aggregate Industries in their mid-Atlantic region — operate three asphalt plants together with contracting facilities in the strategically important Maryland market, while West Shore operate one asphalt plant in Zeeland, Michigan."

"In February Aggregate Industries purchased a modern building-block facility in South Bend, Indiana, from Hass-McCoy Inc, further consolidating their existing position in the important south Michigan and north Indiana region. This was followed in April by the purchase of the ready-mixed concrete assets of Poudre Pre-Mix in Fort Collins, Colorado. Providing additional market coverage in this fast-growing region, Poudre's operations have been fully integrated with the company's existing ready-mixed concrete operations in the state."

"Enhancing their market coverage in Indiana, two ready-mixed concrete facilities and 19 truckmixers were purchased from Ozinga Indiana Ready Mix Concrete in May, while substantial aggregate reserves together with four asphalt plants and a ready-mixed concrete plant were purchased from the Lorusso Corp. on 1 June, significantly strengthening Aggregate Industries' mineral and asphalt operations in and around Boston, Massachusetts."
