Biodiversity-enhanced Agricultural Restoration (Grassland) Workshop
NAM event to discuss the restoration of mineral sites for agricultural grazing use, post extraction
THE presence of best and most versatile soils may determine the restoration of a mineral site for agricultural use, post extraction. However, this choice need not preclude the inclusion of features to maximize wildlife conservation on farmland.
This one-day Nature After Minerals (NAM) workshop, which will take place on 27 June 2012, will consider how commercial farming can integrate the needs of priority farmland birds and nature as a whole.
Specifically looking at grazing pasture for livestock, the workshop is aimed at mineral operators with links to agricultural land; consultants; planners; and other conservation bodies.
The day will commence at the office of Somerset Wildlife Trust and will include a site visit to Hanson’s Batts Combe Quarry in the afternoon.
