Big Bucks highway project for Eurovia

Eurovia helping to deliver £15million Transport for Buckinghamshire highways programme

EUROVIA Surfacing and Eurovia Specialist Treatments (EST) are working with Transport for Buckinghamshire to improve more than 100 roads across the county as part of a £15million highway investment programme.

The investment programme includes applying high-performance GripFibre micro-asphalt on 51 roads, and polymer-modified emulsion surface-dressing treatments on 20 roads, which will be carried out by Eurovia Specialist Treatments. Meanwhile, Eurovia Surfacing will carry out various asphalt resurfacing programmes on 38 roads in Buckinghamshire.

Eurovia have worked with Transport for Buckinghamshire for 10 years and recently completed a major resurfacing project in Slapton as part of the current programme.

This scheme saw deeper patches targeted to strengthen the existing substrate, whilst profile-planed tie-ins were carried out on access points to improve ride-ability and alleviate carriageway flooding, prior to overlaying and strengthening the existing carriageway with an additional 100mm layer of asphalt to give the required texture and improve skid resistance.

Buckinghamshire County Council’s deputy leader and Transport Cabinet member, Mark Shaw, and deputy Transport Cabinet Member, Paul Irwin, visited the site to find out more about the work being carried out.

Cllr Shaw (left of photo) said: ‘With the weather being as touch-and-go as it has been in the last couple of weeks, preparing for work on this site has been something of a challenge. However, the guys here have overcome any weather-related issues really well and I’m more than impressed with the standard of work I’ve seen at this site. I know that road users and local residents will be happy when they feel the benefit of the new road surface.’

Eurovia Surfacing divisional manager Paul Kidd said: ‘We are pleased to be improving the journeys of road users in Buckinghamshire by resurfacing carriageways that are smoother, more resilient to flooding and have improved skid resistance. The newly strengthened carriageways should last for many years and provide outstanding value for money by reducing the whole-life cost of the resurfaced routes.’
