BAA Quarry of the Year 2020 announced

Ben Strickland, Quarry Manager, Smith & Sons (Bletchington)

Gill Mill Quarry comes out on top in this year’s British Aggregates Association AOS award scheme

VOTING for the British Aggregates Association (BAA) Assessment of Operating Standards (AOS) scheme Quarry of the Year award for 2020 was, due to the high standards set this year, very close, making the assessment panel’s decision extremely difficult.

However, after much deliberation the panel decided to make the award to Smiths & Sons (Bletchington) Ltd’s Gill Mill Quarry. The BAA would like to congratulate quarry manager Ben Strickland (pictured) and his team for an outstanding achievement.

The assessment panel also highly commended Tillicoultry Quarries Ltd for maintaining the very high standards set in previous years in achieving accreditation at two of their sites, Tams Loup Quarry and Northfield Quarry.

A spokesperson for the BAA said: ‘This has been an exceptionally difficult year for everyone, making the achievement of BAA AOS accreditation all the more credit worthy.’
