Arco and BSC join forces in drive to improve safety

ARCO and the British Safety Council (BSC) have announced the forging of a strategic partnership that will aim to improve the safety and environmental performance of the UK’s workforce.

The collaboration sees the alignment of the UK’s biggest supplier of safety products, PPE and workwear with one of the world’s leading health and safety training organizations.

By pooling their extensive resources, the two organizations say they plan to deliver the best health, safety and environmental advice, training and safety products currently available.

The partnership commences at a time of increased pressure on all businesses to improve workplace safety policies and procedures, as emphasized by the current ‘European Campaign for Safety and Health at Work’, which focuses on risk assessment in 2008–9 and the Corporate Manslaughter Act.

BSC chief executive, Brian Nimick, said: ‘We are always looking to work with organizations that share our core values in order to maximize the opportunity of the health and safety agenda. We want to save lives by giving people the skills and tools they need to fulfil a successful and safe working life.’

Echoing this view, Thomas Martin, joint managing director of Arco, commented: ‘In partnering with the BSC, we hope they will help us further raise our own game to make sure we’re taking a unified approach in sending out the very best message to British industry.’

Arco have appointed BSC as their preferred supplier for HS&E training and auditing services, and will shortly be implementing a series of BSC-provided, NEBOSH-certified training courses to underpin the health and safety training of up to 100 of their own personnel throughout the UK.

Neil Jowsey, Arco’s sales and marketing director, said the capacity to provide accredited training and auditing in addition to safety advice and products would significantly enhance the company’s service offering to its customers. ‘The ethos of the BSC fits very well with that of Arco and we are looking forward to a very successful partnership with them,’ he commented.
