Apprenticeship success with Mentor

Level 2 Mineral Processing Mobile and Static Plant apprentice success

Nineteen apprentices successfully complete Level 2 Mineral Processing Mobile and Static Plant programme

MENTOR say their Level 2 Mineral Processing Mobile and Static Plant apprenticeship is supporting the industry in the development and introduction of a new generation to the workforce.

Following the introduction of the Level 2 Standard in 2017, Mentor and employers have seen 19 apprentices successfully complete their 13-month apprenticeship and each return to their employers with a vast amount of training and proven competence.

Each apprentice has completed a catalogue of training directly linked to the key competencies required for their specific job roles and site environments. The flexible programme allowed employers to select specific courses and vocational qualifications directly linked to their operations – ensuring relevance for all.

With more than 25% of apprentices achieving a distinction on their observation and interview unit at end-point assessment, Mentor say they are confident that their programme will see many of these apprentices progress in their respective roles and carve out careers in the mineral processing industry.

John Bussey, general manager of MP Awards (part of MPQC), explained: ‘In our role as the end-point assessment organization, we have been delighted to work with Mentor and assess those individuals completing the Mineral Processing Mobile and Static Plant programme.

‘We have seen a great calibre of individuals with some very pleasing results, giving us confidence that the apprenticeship is most definitely an effective way of training our future operators.’

Mentor welcomed learners from a large range of companies across the UK, including The Hills Group, Hanson, Day Group, John Wainwright and Co, Morris and Perry, Aggregate Industries and Banner Contracts.

Tracy Colton, head of apprenticeships, said: ‘I was really pleased and proud of all of our apprentices who worked hard and applied themselves throughout the programme.

‘It was a pleasure to see the apprentices develop the necessary skills, knowledge and behaviours to work safely and effectively in their roles and to see their confidence grow. The site managers have been very supportive, and the apprentices should be very proud of themselves.’
