Aggregate Industries launch ECOPact in the UK

ECOPact low-carbon concrete

New ‘green’ concrete range offers CO2 reductions from 30% to 70%, plus a carbon-neutral option

AGGREGATE Industries have today launched their new ECOPact low-carbon concrete range, to meet increasing demand for more sustainable constriction materials. ECOPact offers customers a range of options to reduce the CO2 emissions of their concrete by between 30% and 70%, compared with standard (CEM1) concrete, without compromising on quality.

ECOPact is low-carbon concrete that utilizes blended cement to offer 30–50% CO2 reduction compared with a standard concrete (CEM1) mix.

ECOPact Prime is engineered using higher blends of cements, including GGBS and fly ash substitutes, to deliver 50–70% CO2 reduction compared with a standard (CEM 1) mix.

ECOPact Max is the lowest-carbon concrete in the range and uses alternative cement technology, such as geopolymers and alkaline activators, to offer a minimum 70% CO2 reduction compared with a standard (CEM1) mix.

Additionally, customers can also choose to upgrade any ECOPact product to ECOPact Zero, a carbon-neutral offering achieved through offsetting any residual CO2.

Aggregate Industries manage this on the customer’s behalf by buying credits in carbon-reduction projects through their offsetting partner, Circular Ecology. These projects include reforestation, clean water projects and investment in renewables.

Guy Edwards, chief executive officer of Aggregate Industries, said: ‘Reducing carbon emissions has long been a goal of the construction industry. Aggregate Industries have always driven this, becoming the first materials supplier to achieve PAS 2080 verification by demonstrating continuous improvement in reducing the whole-life carbon emissions across the entirety of their operations and supply chain.

‘The launch of ECOPact is another step in Aggregate Industries’ transition towards even more sustainable building materials and towards a more sustainable construction industry overall.’
