What’s New at Hillhead 2014

First published in the May 2014 issue of Quarry Management.

In just over a month’s time, Lafarge Tarmac’s Hillhead Quarry, near Buxton, Derbyshire, will once again host the world’s biggest working quarry show. From 24–26 June some 450 UK and international suppliers of plant, equipment, materials and services for the quarrying, construction and recycling industries will be in attendance with a huge range of exhibits on static display and/or live demonstration. Many of the exhibitors will be using the show as the platform for the launch of their latest products and offerings, and the following pages provide a snapshot of just some of the new equipment, systems and services that visitors to the show will be able to see on display for the first time.

Power and automation technology specialists ABB will be using Hillhead 2014 to launch a new turnkey drivetrain package for the aggregates industry that will demonstrate the benefits of using a single-source supplier for all components, from electric motors, variable-speed drives and gearboxes to bearings and couplings. These benefits are designed to reduce downtime and operating costs, improve reliability and increase productivity levels. Among the various items on display will be ABB’s new, highly energy-efficient synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) range offering outputs from 1.1kW up to 350kW.

Anaconda have been making significant headway in the UK market since the last Hillhead show and will be exhibiting again this year to show their latest products, including the SR514. Although this 14ft x 5ft two-deck finishing screen has been on the market for 12 months, Hillhead 2014 will be the first time the Cat-powered machine has been shown to a mass audience.
