Baioni Crushing Plants Spa highlight some of the key products from their broad range of screens and grizzlies

Baioni Crushing Plants, a global leader in the design, manufacture, installation and servicing of equipment and solutions for the quarrying, mining, recycling, waste-management and cement industries, offer a wide range of grizzlies and vibrating screens, all of which are designed to meet the needs of modern, high-capacity production plants in terms of plant availability, space and energy savings. Baioni equipment, some of which is described below, can be found in many quarries around the world providing efficient, trouble-free screening and separation in both static and mobile applications.

Baioni GD live-roll grizzly

The Baioni GD live-roll grizzly (wobbler) has been produced by Baioni Crushing Plants for more than 25 years and has proved itself in many difficult situations, especially with heavy clay materials that are difficult to separate and with lump sizes of 100mm or more. Driven by an electric motor via a reduction gearbox, rotation of the Baioni GD unit’s shafts and elliptical rolls imparts a wave-type motion to the feed material, forcing it to move forward and tumbling, scrubbing and cleaning it as it does so.

Acting a pre-screen, the grizzly will remove a large percentage of fines from feed material before it enters the crusher, resulting in increased crusher output and a cleaner end product. The aggressive nature of the pre-screen means that it works particularly effectively in applications where the aggregate feed material is dirty, large sized and/or highly abrasive. This type of grizzly is also now being widely used in the recycled aggregates industry, to separate and grade demolition waste. A total of nine models of varying sizes are available, offering throughputs ranging from 200 tonnes/h up to 1,200 tonnes/h.

Thanks to the use of high-efficiency motors, a key feature of Baioni GD roll grizzlies is their low power consumption. They are also particularly quiet when running and do not suffer from fatigue problems caused by vibration. In addition, high-quality seals ensure protection from dust and other contaminating substances, resulting in long intervals between replacement of wear parts and, therefore, a longer working life for all moving parts.

Baioni W vibrating screen

This type of four-bearing screen has also been a mainstay of the Baioni range for many years, achieving very good amplitude of vibration for difficult materials and providing the main sizing and washing facility in installations around the world.

Designed and built for the selection of crushed aggregates, the Baioni W screen is of the ‘constrained vibrating screen’ type, as the eccentric shaft is fixed to the frame by two supports. Generating constant and continuous oscillations regardless of the load size, this system provides high output and high selection quality, and, if necessary, can be fitted with spray bars.

This screen sits in its own sub-frame supported by helical springs, making it east to install. Oscillations are generated by an eccentric shaft connected to the fixed frame by means of two supports. The key feature of ‘constrained vibration’ is that the amplitude of the circular vibration is predetermined and invariable (factory set) regardless of the weight of the material. The fixed frame is equipped with special rubber pads which totally isolate the supporting structures from vibrations.

The Baioni W screen is produced in 12 model sizes with the number of decks varying from two to four, depending on customer requirements. These screens can be fitted with plate, wire or polyurethane screen meshes in a range of aperture sizes/diameters to suit the application.

Baioni V screen

In recent years this type of screen has come to be regarded as a very reliable item of equipment for the sizing and washing of aggregates, even under the most difficult conditions. Suitable for fine or coarse classification, its operating principle is based on the oscillation of the screen decks (which consist of overlapped decks with meshes of different sizes) by a rotating shaft powered by an electric motor and driven by pulleys and drive belts.

The Baioni V screen is defined as a ‘free vibration screen’, as a patented system of ‘vibration generators’ fitted at the top of the shaft allow the screen to stop vibrating immediately after being switched off, avoiding the normal over-run often associated with vibrating screens. In addition, the fixed frame is equipped with special rubber pads which totally isolate the supporting structure from vibrations.

The vibration generators are equipped with an internal mechanism through which a mass, urged by centrifugal force generated by the rotation, moves freely from the centre towards the periphery. The displacement of this mass creates a ‘variable eccentric’ which, during start-up (acceleration), sets the casing in motion and, during braking, slows down the movement without generating unwanted vibrations or noise. This system ensures effective and efficient screening performance with reduced noise for improved workplace health and safety.

Based on proven and patented design concepts, the benefits of Baioni V screen are said to include:

  • avoidance of abnormal oscillations normally associated with the stopping phase
  • wide and accurate regulation of vibration intensity
  • constant belt tension through an automatic pulley regulation system to compensate for screen vibrations
  • reduced assembly time.

The Baioni V screen, which is usually installed with a 18° slope that increases output considerably compared with the ‘constrained vibrating screen’, is available in 26 size variations with one to four decks and offers throughputs ranging from 300 to 420 tonnes/h. In addition, the V screen can be equipped as a washing plant with heavy-duty spray bars with high-pressure spray nozzles to help with the removal of fines and impurities.

Also within the V range is a double-shaft model, the VV21, which ensures more uniform oscillations across the whole of the screen surface, thereby increasing machine throughput and overall capacity while ensuring high-quality product selection.

Bespoke solutions

With more than 40 years’ experience in the production of aggregate crushing, screening and washing equipment, Baioni are often required to design special solutions to meet unique needs.

‘Where our standard products do not meet the requirements, our team of highly skilled and experienced engineers is available to design and produce custom solutions,’ commented managing director Pietro Baioni.

‘For example, a year ago we delivered an inclined five-deck vibrating screen, equipped as a washing plant, model V15/50, which was really special because the structure was entirely galvanized to ensure a longer life and high wear resistance.

‘Our experience in the specification and manufacture of custom solutions means we can help our customers to solve their problems quickly and easily, and they have the security of dealing with an ISO 9001:2008 accredited company that offers full warranty and after-sales support for their investment.’

He added: ‘The next step for Baioni will be the launch of the new BaiScreen W 400/2 track-mounted screen at the CCT Moscow 2013 exhibition in June. With key features such as two full-size 4,000mm decks and four-bearing eccentric shaft forced vibration, among others, this new product will increase the application capabilities and screening efficiency of the existing BaiScreen mobile product range.’
