New Asphalt Pavers from Vögele

Vögele introduce their largest asphalt paver to date plus two new compact models

At bauma 2019, innovative and powerful new machines were amongst the biggest draws to the Wirtgen Group stand, as the company showcased more equipment, technology and services than ever before. Taking centre stage in the Vögele section of the stand was the manufacturer’s biggest paver to date – the Super 3000-3(i). This flagship machine (from Vögele’s Premium line) can pave widths up to 18m; the equivalent of a four-lane highway without joints when used with the company’s SB 350 fixed-width screed.

Suitable for medium-sized contracts and paving airport runways, the Super 3000-3(i) is able to lay down up to 1,800 tonnes of mix per hour. An innovative material transport system allows the height of the rear section of the chassis, as well as the conveyors and augers, to be adjusted with the push of a button. This ensures material can be laid down on the augers from above ensuring an optimum head of mix in front of the screed.

As with all Vögele Premium models, the Super 3000-3(i) features the company’s ErgoPlus 3 operating concept with automated features and enhanced convenience. The asphalt paver also incorporates all the benefits of Vögele’s Dash 3 range, including the EcoPlus low-emission package and optional PaveDock assistant communication system.

Powered by a 354kW diesel engine, the Super 3000-3(i) has sufficient power to tackle high-volume paving jobs with ease whilst delivering maximum paving quality. For versatility, the machine can be supplied with the AB 600 extending screed or SB 300/SB 350 fixed-width screeds – the latter of which has been engineered to lay down surface courses up to 5cm across a total width of 18m.

In paving jobs, speed and flexibility are key factors. The paver’s new telescoping and positioning system for screed bolt-on extension has been designed to reduce set-up times when working with varying pave widths. The fixed-width screeds are also hydraulically adjustable up to 2.5m at the push of a button, thanks to extra-wide hydraulic bolt-on extensions.

Another advantage for paver operators is that the tamper stroke can now be adjusted hydraulically on the Super 3000-3(i) when required, which, say Vögele, is a ‘world first’ in asphalt pavers. With the hydraulic tamper-stroke adjustment system, operators can set the optimum tamper stroke at 4mm or 8mm, simply by pressing a button on the ErgoPlus 3 unit or screed console. This speeds-up asphalt laying processes, especially when working with varying layer thicknesses.

Compact pavers

Vögele have also expanded their compact paver range with the addition of the Super 1000(i) tracked paver and its wheeled counterpart – the Super 1003(i). Designed to meet the needs of small-to-medium-sized contractors, both machines run on a Stage IIIA emission-compliant diesel engine (74hp) and pave widths up to 3.9m.

As part of Vögele’s Classic line of pavers, the compact models are equipped with the ErgoBasic operating system, which provides operators with all the necessary functions and status indicators they need to achieve high-quality paving. Key features of the intuitive ErgoBasic system include glare-free backlighting, for night-time working, and simple steering by rotary controller or, in the case of the wheeled version, by steering wheel.

The wheeled Super 1003(i) is available as a 6×2 version but can be specified in 6×4 configuration on request. The machine has a maximum travel speed of 20km/h and features a 10-tonne capacity material hopper and reversible conveyors.

The compact pavers can be combined with an AB 340 extending screed in the TV version (with tamper and vibrators) or V version (with vibrators), while the height of the augers can be adjusted to support the different layer thicknesses during paving.

For ease of operation, Vögele have incorporated the Niveltronic basic system into the Super 1000(i) and Super 1003(i) mini-pavers for automated grade and slope control. Operators have a range of control technologies and sensors to choose from, to help them be more productive and efficient in a variety of applications.
