Selwood Install Pump for Mid Hants

New Selwood solids-handling pump offers robust solution for aggregates firm

Selwood have added a new unit to their solids-handling pumps range specially designed for recycled aggregates, construction and quarrying applications. The latest S150M Electric, a modified version of Selwood’s best-selling S150M diesel unit, is powered by a highly efficient and environmentally friendly 110kW electric motor.

The electric solids-handling pump has already provided an ideal solution for Mid Hants, a leading supplier of high-quality graded sand, gravel, crushed rock and recycled aggregate products for the construction materials market.

Operating from a network of strategically located quarries throughout the UK, the Hampshire-based company needed an reliable pump to meet the design and performance requirements of a new washing plant, with flows of 500m3/h at a rated pressure of 5 bar for sand washing.

Mid Hants approached Selwood whose specialists were called on site to carry out a detailed assessment to identify the best pump for the operation, and the S150M model, with its medium-head capabilities, was chosen.

A demonstration of the S150M diesel was undertaken at 500m3/h (operating 5 bar pressure) and tests proved successful. Following discussions with Selwood, Mid Hants decided to purchase the variant S150M Electric instead, as they had an electric power source on site and wanted to hose their new pump in a container.

Selwood carried out a full on-site installation and ensured the electric S150M pump, which is controlled by a variable-speed drive control system, provides the same performance (500m3/h at 5 bar pressure) and characteristics as the diesel model. It was also important for Mid Hants to be able to increase and reduce the flow as required.

Following the success of the S150M medium-head pump, the aggregates company is looking to add more Selwood units, including a S200 to feed the main lagoon for the supply of water to the plant, and a D150 drainer pump to take drainage water from the sand, as well as supplying the mains water to the lagoon.

Paul Mann, director of UK and European business development at Selwood Pump Sales, said: ‘We’re delighted to introduce this new model to our range, building on our strengths and those of our distributor network in solids-handling technology.

‘Customers in the construction and aggregates industry are increasingly seeking to reduce emissions and comply with even more stringent regulations. The S150M Electric has been developed in response to this demand for emission compliance without sacrificing the high performance our customers are accustomed to.’

He added: ‘It perfectly complements our S150M diesel version, which has proven to be very popular across the world because of its versatility in medium-head pumping. Mid Hants are one of the first customers to apply the S150M Electric and we are pleased that this pump provided the perfect solution for them.’

The S150M Electric unit is suitable for both contractors and rental companies. Offering total heads up to 70m and solids handling (76mm), it can operate at volumes of up to 700m3/h. The new pump features strong suction performance (NPSHr) and delivers a best efficiency point of 68% at 2,000 rev/min (450m3/h at 51m head BEP).

The S150M Electric is also robustly designed with internal wear parts supplied in stainless steel 316 as standard, which provides exceptional abrasion and corrosion resistance.

Demonstrating their commitment to continuous product innovation, Selwood’s specialists are currently developing the S150M Electric Super Silent, which will feature the company’s most advanced sound-attenuation technology.
