Volvo trio

A Volvo L120D wheel loader and two articulated dumptrucks, one being the recently launched A40D, are being employed at Marshalls Mono’s Fletcher Bank Quarry in Lancashire.

The A40D has been specially prepared for the abrasive nature of the gristone quarried at the site by using XAR 500 Brinnel liners, together with a headboard and 250mm side extensions added to the 22.5m3 capacity body. The truck replaces two Volvo A35Cs that have worked there since 1995.

An A30C articulated dumptruck and the L120D wheel loader have been purchased to operate in the stocking-out areas and for general rehandling duties. The A30C has also been fitted with the same liners as the A40D so that it can supplement the larger dumptruck when production demands. The L120D runs on Michelin XRD1A tyres and is fitted with a 3.3m3 straight-lipped bucket and benefits from boom suspension, ride control and a Groeneveld automatic greasing system.

The new trucks were Marshall’s first choice after the original A35Cs had given excellent service and reliability over the last six years. All three machines are fully supported by Volvo Construction Equipment’s customer-support centre based at Warrington and have been provided with customer-linked repair and maintenance contracts.
