US aggregate output remains flat
"AN estimated 442 million tonnes of crushed stone were produced for consumption in the US in the second quarter of 2002, according to the US Geological Survey’s latest quarterly mineral industry survey. This represents a decrease of 1% compared with the same period of 2001. For the first six months of 2002 the estimated output of crushed stone was 723 million tonnes, an increase of just 0.7% compared with the previous year."
"The estimated output of construction sand and gravel in the second quarter of 2002 was 317 million tonnes, an increase of 2.6% compared with the same period of 2001. The estimated output for the first six months of 2002 was 502 million tonnes, representing an increase of 1.6%."
"The five leading States in the production of crushed stone in the second quarter of 2002 were Texas, Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio and Illinois, who between them represented 31.5% of the US total. The five leading sand and gravel States were California, Michigan, Texas, Ohio and Colorado, representing 37.8% of the total."
