Two new SmartScreens from Metso Minerals

TWO new Lokotrack mobile screens were unveiled earlier this month by Metso Minerals. Called the Lokotrack ST358 and ST458, they are two- and three-deck mobile units, respectively, both of which are equipped with large 5.4m x1.5m screens offering a screening area per deck of 7.9m2 (85ft2). End-to-end crowning of the two-bearing screenbox ensures a high level of screening performance, which is further enhanced by the screens’ ability to use both forward and reverse movements.

Both new units also feature SmartScreen technology – a system that utilizes the computing power of Metso’s IC300 intelligent controlling system. SmartScreen senses the load on the main conveyor and monitors screen functions, automatically adjusting key parameters, such as feeding and screening speeds, when necessary. Metso say this ability to control, in real time, the screens’ functions results in continuous, high-quality, high-capacity screening.

For the operator, the Lokotrack ST358 and ST458 are both convenient and easy to use. The whole screening process can be started by pressing just one button, and if a problem exists the IC300 intelligent controlling system has an easy-to-understand diagnostic feature that leads the operator easily to the source of the malfunction.

The new models are mounted on heavy-duty tracks that, in conjunction with their substantial weight, help ensure both good on-site mobility and stable operation, even in difficult site conditions. Both machines are equipped with a 4.5m wide feed hopper, which has a capacity of 7.5m3, a loading height of 3.3m, and is easy to detach due to its cassette-style structure. Conveyor capacity has been increased over previous models; the width of the discharge conveyor is now 1,200mm and the side conveyors are also wider (up to 800mm) for improved capacity.

Both screens are powered by liquid-cooled, 110kW Deutz diesel engines and both models are easy to transport on a normal trailer without traffic restrictions (transport dimensions: height: 3.3m, width: 3m, and length: 17.9m). Options include radio-controlled operation, maintenance platforms, chute liners and a dust-absorbing system. If necessary, the ST358 and ST458 can both be connected to Metso’s Lokotrack LT series of mobile crushing plants via an interlocking cable.
