Two injured in explosion at Stancombe Quarry
TWO men are in hospital with serious burn injuries following an explosion at Tarmac Ltd’s Stancombe Quarry, near Bristol, on Monday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the quarry at around 4.30pm by witnesses who saw the explosion involving liquified petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders on the back of a lorry.
The casualties are believed to be the lorry driver and a workmate.
The Great Western Air Ambulance, which was sent to the scene, found one of the men suffering from first-degree burns, while the other had more serious third-degree burns.
According to Avon Fire and Rescue Service, both had suffered burns to their upper bodies and faces. It is understood that the injuries, though serious, are not thought to be life-threatening.
The most seriously injured casualty was flown to Frenchay Hospital, in Bristol, by the air ambulance, while the other was taken to the same hospital by road.
