Tripod Crest put faith in Enigma’s Skyline and lone-worker protection system

Tripod Crest Group, one of the UK's leading road planing and surfacing labour suppliers, manage their large fleet of vehicles and plant using the Skyline advanced GPS vehicle tracking, data management and security system from Enigma Vehicle Systems plc.

As well as instant visibility, anti-theft protection and fleet management information for Tripod Crest vehicles and construction plant around the country, another successful aspect of the Skyline system has been a new lone-worker protection system for the company’s drivers.

Tripod Crest drivers are regularly working late at night on site, delivering or collecting equipment, or visiting equipment for servicing or repairs. In urban planing and road surfacing projects, these sites are on deserted streets, cordoned off for work overnight. Drivers may also have to visit isolated sites late at night on motorways and other locations outside towns or cities.

The features offered by Skyline allow it to be customized to provide the security and telemetry data required by the customer. The lone-worker system is a cost-efficient add-on to the Skyline system that is operated by a rocker switch in the vehicle cab. Before the driver leaves the cab to carry out a task, they switch on the lone-worker system for a set period of time and if the driver does not return in that time to switch off the system, an alarm signal is sent to Enigma. The first reaction is for Enigma to ring the driver on their mobile telephone to check they are ok and merely delayed from returning to the cab. If there is no answer, then Enigma contacts one of several 24-hour emergency numbers at Tripod Crest for action to be taken by the company.

Jim Tough, plant director at Tripod Crest, said: ‘I have been very impressed with the theft-prevention and fleet-management capabilities offered by the Skyline system from Enigma. In addition, the lone-worker system is so simple and yet provides our staff with a safeguard, giving them full confidence to carry out their duties. I would recommend the Skyline system to any fleet manager and I’m surprised the lone-worker system has not been adopted by more companies in our field.’

The Skyline GPS tracking and telematics system offers a number of reporting options that vehicle and plant fleet managers can use to customize the data retrieval and reporting offered by their system to provide reports that suit their specific purposes.

At Tripod Crest Group, the vehicle and plant fleet is split between the four principal business units: Tripod Crest Ltd, who provide skilled surfacing operatives  nationally; Tripod Crest Planing, who operate road planers nationally for hire and contract work; Tripod Crest Contracts, who offer a full design and construction service to civil engineering, housebuilding, refurbishment and maintenance contractors; and F & T Goodwin, road surfacing contractors.

Using Skyline, fleet summary reports can be generated to analyse utilization across a fleet, recording idle vehicles, speed events, average journeys and so on. The reports are delivered weekly, by e-mail via the Skyline report scheduler, without any intervention from the users. Using this data, Tripod Crest can reduce fleet costs and enhance control of company operations.
