Training for Competence – Revised Date
THE Mineral Products Qualifications Council (MPQC) has rescheduled the half-day ‘Training for Competence’ workshop which had been due to take place in Loughborough earlier this month, but had to be postponed due to adverse weather conditions. The event will now take place at the Link Hotel, Loughborough, on Wednesday 12 January 2011.
Delegates attending the workshop will hear key speakers including Roy Bush from the HSE on the need for competence, Graham Crawshaw of MPQC on understanding the new Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF), Julian Smallshaw of the Institute of Quarrying (IQ) on the benefits to industry, Mike Phillips, also from IQ, on ongoing professional development, and Jonathan Ledger of Proskills on funding opportunities.
With NVQs about to be replaced by qualifications within the new QCF, the Mineral Products Qualification Council, in conjunction with the Institute of Quarrying, has been holding a series of workshops at venues across the UK to present the new qualifications and their benefits in a down-to-earth and practical manner, in order to help the industry understand the new system,
Three workshops have already taken place in Scotland, Bradford and Bristol, and feedback from these events has been extremely positive.
After attending the Bradford workshop, Andy Rossiter, SHEQ and technical manager UK with Orica, said: ‘The explanation of the new QCF programme was excellent in that it made it simple and easy to understand the new system. The use of Blasting Operations as an example clearly identified how the qualification works and how it matches up to the current NVQs.’
