Tarmac attend Duke of Edinburgh’s Award showcase

Graeme Boylen meeting HRH The Earl of Wessex

Company endorses the skills and attributes developed by young people whilst doing a DofE programme

TARMAC joined 30 businesses at the recent Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) showcase at Heathrow Airport to explore how best to develop young people for life and work by getting involved with the leading UK youth charity.

The event saw HRH The Earl of Wessex, a Trustee of the DofE, and John Holland-Kaye, chief executive of Heathrow Airport, speak about the range of business benefits of partnering with the DofE, whilst Gold Award holder Lilia Adomako shared her experiences, which have transformed her life and career.

Tarmac are one of the most recent companies to become a Gold partner of DofE, with the first cohort of under-24-year-old employees working towards goals in each required area – including volunteering, physical, skills-based, expeditions and residential activity – to complete their Gold Award.

The partnership is among the latest additions to Tarmac’s wide range of professional initiatives aimed at fostering a talented and diverse workforce for the future.

Graeme Boylen, HR director at Tarmac, represented the company at the showcase and had the opportunity to meet HRH The Earl of Wessex to highlight the company’s commitment to developing young people.

Commenting on the event, Mr Boylen said: ‘We are extremely passionate about helping young people to build better futures and our partnership with DofE is one of the great ways we are supporting this ambition.

‘It was fantastic to attend the event and be part of discussions highlighting the valuable skills which young people can gain from participating in the programme, as well as a great privilege to share our wider approach to youth development with HRH The Earl of Wessex.’

The DofE – the world’s leading youth achievement award – is currently helping 430,000 young people to develop for life and work in the UK. DofE is supported by leading UK employers, including Tarmac, who endorse the skills and attributes developed whilst doing a DofE programme, such as resilience, commitment, self-motivation and teamworking.
