Enrique Moran Montero named among the winners at the 2024 Cranfield Alumni Awards

TARMAC’s national restoration manager, Enrique Moran Montero, has been named one of the winners of the 2024 Cranfield Design, Energy, Environment and Water Alumni Awards.

Mr Montero, who earned his MSc in Land Reclamation and Restoration in 2015, has demonstrated exceptional expertise and leadership in environmental restoration throughout his career. As national restoration manager, he is responsible for overseeing the restoration of 198 quarries across the UK. This includes preparing and reviewing restoration, aftercare, and decommissioning schemes, managing budgets, and fostering relationships with external stakeholders to ensure best practices in restoration and reclamation.

In addition to his role at Tarmac, Mr Montero has been pivotal in strengthening the company’s partnership with Cranfield University. By co-developing funded Group Projects with Dr Rob Simmons and signing a five-year Service Level Agreement, he has positioned Tarmac at the forefront of research in soil health, biodiversity net gain, and carbon sequestration. His efforts were recognized with a special award at the 2019 MPA Quarries and Nature prize-giving ceremony, for conducting the first trial of the Biodiversity Net Gain metric (DEFRA metric) at quarry sites.

Reflecting on his 2024 Cranfield Alumni award, Mr Montero said: ‘I’m incredibly honoured to receive this recognition. The work we do at Tarmac wouldn’t be possible without the support of my amazing team and the continued collaboration with Cranfield University. Together, we are pushing the boundaries of sustainability and restoration, and I’m excited about what the future holds for these initiatives.’
