Sonim XP3300 Force – the world’s toughest phone

Sonim XP3300 Force mobile phone

The Sonim XP3300 Force has officially become the ‘world’s toughest phone’ – having secured its entry into the Guinness World Records hall of fame. The ultra-rugged phone survived an extreme drop test from 25m – higher than a 10-storey building – on to concrete without operational damage.

To fulfil the strict requirements, the record attempt was witnessed by independent judges from Guinness World Records, who tested the phone to confirm it was still working following the drop, beating the previous world record of 3.25m held by the 2008 JCB Toughphone.

‘We wanted to stamp Sonim’s name on the world record, confirming that the Sonim XP3300 Force is the toughest phone in the world,’ commented Bob Plaschke, chief executive officer of Sonim Technologies.

‘Most mobile phones are drop-tested to a metre, which just isn’t enough in extreme environments. Establishing the Guinness World Record for the highest mobile phone drop assures workers in remote and tough locations that their Sonim phone is ‘fit for purpose’ and can withstand daily knocks, drops and tumbles.’

Certified against dust, dirt and shock, as well as being fully water-resistant up to 2m, Sonim phones are designed for use in the toughest environments and applications. The XP3300 Force, in particular, is an ultra-rugged handset that goes beyond Milspec.

Tested against the company’s RPS standards, it has been dragged behind boats and quad bikes, driven over by cars, immersed in ice and concrete, sand-blasted and submerged – and still survived to tell the tale.
