S/NVQ Success

Sixty plant operatives at Kier Mining’s Greenburn OCCS, in East Ayrshire, have recently achieved level 2 Scottish NVQs in Construction and the Built Environment.

The staff only started the scheme, part of the company’s Workforce Competence Initiative, at the beginning of the year. All employees at Greenburn are actively involved in the programme, which combines in-house training and development in both Kier management systems and National Occupational Standards, leading to S/NVQs at levels 1–5. As a direct result of their achievements to date, a number of Greenburn candidates have already gained promotion within the project management team. Kier Mining say all employees at Greenburn will continue to benefit from personal development for the life of the mine, contributing to the success of the project and enhancing their future employment opportunities.
