Company accelerates expansion strategy with £6.3 million investment from BGF

MULTI-franchise equipment dealers Molson have secured a significant multi-million-pound investment from UK-based investors BGF. The company will use the £6.3 million investment to build a new national parts centre, as well as additional depots across the UK, as part of its business growth strategy.

Founded in 1996 by Jonathan Wilson and Robin Powell, Molson provide sales and aftersales services for heavy construction equipment to the construction, quarrying and waste-management industries. The business has grown organically through a number of acquisitions (largely in north of England and Scotland) and now operates from depots in Bristol, Warrington, London, Kent, Stratford-upon-Avon and Doune, in Scotland.

Molson are one of the largest European dealers for Korean and Japanese excavators, including Hyundai and Kobelco brands. In addition, the company has established Molson Green – a full-line distributor serving the waste-management and recycling industries.

In addition to investing in Molson, BGF will help drive the distributor’s nationwide footprint and support its acquisition strategy. Earlier in the year, Molson acquired Finlay Plant Ltd and their subsidiaries, securing the distribution rights for the complete range of Terex Finlay mobile crushing, screening and conveying equipment for England, Wales and Channel Islands.

Jonathan Wilson, managing director of Molson Group, commented: ‘In recent years, we have been focused on expanding our presence across the UK to provide national sales and aftersales services to our customers.

‘We believe it is critical that distributors gain scale and offer a national service to meet the demands of today’s customers. Customers are driving supply chain reductions and are focused on a national service level of commitment. This investment will provide the opportunity to continue to add scale to our infrastructure and offering.’

Ned Dorbin of BGF added: ‘Molson differentiates by being a national operator for a full range of heavy equipment brands, aftermarket parts and the ability to service increasingly complex machines.

‘The company’s growth has been achieved through a strong and committed management team led by Robin and Jonathan, and a focus on developing longstanding relationships with UK customers and international OEM brands. We’re delighted to be supporting the company’s future growth as a minority partner.’
