Size matters in the Channel Islands
CONCRETE equipment specialists Utranazz have supplied their smallest truck-mounted concrete boom pump, the Urban Pump, to United Carpentry Formwork Pumping (UCF Pumping) of Guernsey.
Mounted on a 10-tonne lorry (with a short wheel base), the boom pump is 2.1m wide, 3m high, 6.8m long and weighs 9,150kg. As roads in Guernsey are generally narrow and subject to weight and size restrictions, these proportions make the unit particularly suitable for concrete pumping work on the island.
Jamie Weysom, director of UCF Pumping, explained: ‘The roads and lanes here are very tight with some down to just a single lane, and access and space are always restricted. The Urban Pump is small enough that it can be set up on just one side of a road, which means that we no longer need to organize both-lane road closures.’
The truck-mounted concrete pump has a 15m reach and a three-section z-fold boom that rotates 360°. It has maximum output of 45 cu m per hour and its z-fold design allows the boom to unfold in 4.4m of space. In addition, if further pipeline is integrated, the unit can extend 65m vertically and 300m horizontally.
The Urban has the same features as Utranazz’s larger unit, including radio remote control, an ‘S’ valve pumping system, hydraulic stabilizers legs and a high-pressure water pump.
