Self-cleaning liquid filters

Separ UK have extended their range of filtration and separation equipment with the addition of a low-cost, self-cleaning filter which allows continuous fluid flow while the filter is being cleaned.

The filter comprises a precision-built circular disc stack and a smaller star disc which determines the micron rating and separates each disc. A fixed, oblong plough disc is located on the outer edge and penetrates a short way into the disc stack. When the disc stack is turned, the plough removes any impurities that have built up on the outside and between each disc.

Impurities are removed via a drain plug or valve in the base of the filter bowl. Separ are developing a system to fully automate impurity removal for continuous systems with high levels of solids.

Most models are made from aluminium, with some available in cast iron. Disc stacks are in carbon steel or in the larger models, stainless steel.

The new range of six model types is available with either manual or automatic cleaning and flow rates ranging from 50 litres/h to 24,000 litres/h. Available filtration levels are: 100, 300 and 600 microns (140, 50 and 30 mesh) and, in the larger 2in ported model, 250, 500 and 750 microns (60, 35 and 23 mesh).
