Road into the next century

Traffic to and from Tarmac's Barrasford Quarry in Northumberland has travelled along a network of lanes, passing through the neighbouring village, for over 100 years.

But now Tarmac have built a new access road linking Barrasford Quarry directly to the A68 trunk road, bypassing Barrasford Village altogether. The road is over two miles long and, together with associated works, represents a £1.5 million investment by the company. The existing village access is now officially closed to quarry traffic.

Tarmac recognize their role in maintaining and enhancing the local environment and, as well as the new access road, are currently re-landscaping around the quarry and planting more than 40,000 trees. Extensive archaeological and environmental studies have also been carried out.
